What's The Difference Between Packages?
At KeepYourHomeIP, we offer two packages to meet your VPN networking needs: Economy Light and Business. Both include a server router for your home and a travel router to carry with you. The main differences are the router models, the maximum VPN speeds they support, and the Wi‑Fi standards they use. This guide will help you choose the package that best fits your needs.
Factors to Consider
Before delving into the specifics of each package, consider the following factors:
- Home Upload Speed: Determine the upload speed offered by your home Internet Service Provider (ISP). Your VPN speed can't exceed this limit.
- Number of Connected Devices: Estimate how many devices will be connected to the VPN simultaneously. More devices often require more bandwidth.
- WiFi Standards: Do you need WiFi 4, WiFi 5, or WiFi 6? The higher the standard, the better the performance and range, but it may also require compatible client devices.
Package Comparison
Economy Light
- Max VPN Speed: 45 Mbps
- WiFi Standard: WiFi 4 (802.11n 2.4GHz)
- Best For: Users with modest home upload speeds and few connected devices. Supports connecting 1 device with an Ethernet cable.
Business
- Max VPN Speed: 170 Mbps
- WiFi Standard: WiFi 5 (802.11ac Dual Band)
- Best For: Users with moderate home upload speeds and a moderate number of devices. Supports connecting 2 devices with an Ethernet cable.
Conclusion
Choosing the right package will greatly influence your VPN experience. By factoring in your home ISP speed, the number of devices, and your desired WiFi standard, you can select a package that closely matches your requirements.
Always remember that the actual speeds can vary due to several external factors, such as your ISP at the home location and the travel location, as well as the distance between your server router and travel router.

Which Package is Recommended For Your Needs?
Depending on your upload speed, the number of laptops you want to use, or how frequently you are traveling, we can recommend different KYHIP packages.
If you need to connect 2 computers with an Ethernet cable, we recommend the Business package.
If you have a DSL or cable Internet connection with an upload speed of up to 35 Mbps, your choice is Economy Light. This package supports speeds up to 50 Mbps and allows connecting 1 computer with an Ethernet cable, and many more over WiFi.
If you have a fiber optic connection or high-speed cable with an upload speed of up to 100 Mbps, you should purchase the Business package. This package supports speeds up to 170 Mbps and allows connecting 2 computers with an Ethernet cable, and many more over WiFi. The Business package has much faster WiFi than Economy Light.
Named speeds are the maximum possible speeds, and actual speeds will vary, especially depending on your location and the performance of your devices. To ensure the best possible performance, connect all devices with Ethernet and avoid using WiFi.

GPS Tracker in Work Laptop: Dispelling Misconceptions
Many individuals express concern about the possibility of their work laptop being equipped with a GPS chip, enabling constant location tracking by their employer. This article aims to clarify that the probability of work laptops containing GPS chips is very low. Employers typically rely on less intrusive methods, such as IP addresses and Wi-Fi network scanning, commonly known as the Wi-Fi Positioning System, to determine location.
Why a GPS Chip is Unlikely
- Cost Considerations: Adding a dedicated GPS chip to a laptop incurs additional expenses. Companies are unlikely to invest in such technology for standard-issue laptops.
- Battery Drain: GPS chips consume significant power, compromising the laptop's battery life—especially problematic for devices intended for mobile use.
- Overkill for Location Tracking: GPS chips would be excessive for location tracking purposes, considering the availability of more straightforward and cost-effective solutions that meet the needs of most employers.
- Limited Use Cases: Scenarios requiring hyper-accurate location data are rare, and the ethical implications, along with data minimization principles in privacy regulations like GDPR, discourage unnecessary tracking.
Alternatives Employers Use
IP Address Tracking
Your laptop’s IP address can provide a general indication of your geographical location. Although this method is less accurate than GPS, it may be sufficient for employers to verify that you are working from an approved location.
How it works: Your internet service provider (ISP) assigns an IP address to your network. Various databases map IP addresses to approximate geographical locations. These results are not perfectly precise, but they can often identify the general area or city.Wi-Fi Positioning
Wi-Fi positioning is another method that can be used to estimate a device’s location.
How it works: When your laptop scans for available Wi-Fi networks, it may detect the networks’ unique identifiers, such as SSIDs and BSSIDs. Location databases can use this information to estimate the device’s location based on the known positions of those Wi-Fi networks. However, whether an employer can access this information depends on the operating system, installed software, device permissions, and the organization’s monitoring configuration.
Summary
In conclusion, the likelihood of your work laptop containing a GPS chip for location tracking is minimal. Employers typically opt for less invasive and cost-effective methods like IP address tracking and Wi-Fi Positioning Systems. To address privacy concerns, consider disabling Wi-Fi and Bluetooth on your work laptop and connecting it to your KYHIP Travel router with Ethernet.

Internet Speed at Your Travel Destination
If you're utilizing a KYHIP VPN router to establish a secure tunnel to your home network, you may notice variations in internet speeds based on your travel destination. While the KYHIP VPN router itself is not the sole factor influencing speed, several elements, such as network congestion, distance, routing, and peering, contribute to the fluctuations. This article explores the intricacies of these factors, shedding light on why your internet speed may differ away from home.
Distance Matters
The physical distance that data packets travel impacts latency. More hops between routers and switches result in more processing delays. Connecting to your home network from a distant location extends the path data packets travel, introducing latency that could affect speed.
Network Peering and Routing
Internet Service Providers (ISPs) establish peering agreements to facilitate efficient data flow between networks. Disparities in peering between countries can influence data routing and speed. ISPs employ complex algorithms to determine optimal data paths, but sometimes factors lead to suboptimal selections, affecting speed.
Local Network Congestion
The last mile of the network, transitioning from the global network to the local ISP, often experiences congestion, particularly during peak hours. If the local Internet connection accessing your KYHIP VPN router at home faces congestion, you may encounter slowdowns.
Potential Solutions
Your internet speed while using the KYHIP VPN router during travel is influenced by factors like fiber optic cables, distance, peering, and routing algorithms. Understanding these components can help manage expectations and inform strategies for improving your internet experience abroad.
- Adjusting the MTU
Modifying the MTU (Maximum Transmission Unit) can significantly improve speed, considering variations in access technologies and network configurations among ISPs. Refer to this article to learn how to adjust your MTU.
- Changing Your Travel ISP
Trying different ISPs at your travel location may improve VPN speeds. Test various locations with your travel router and different ISPs, then decide based on the best results.
- Changing the Home ISP
Though challenging, changing your home ISP may enhance VPN speeds. Unfortunately, we cannot guarantee which ISP will provide better speed.
Understanding these factors and implementing appropriate adjustments can contribute to a more satisfactory internet experience while using your KYHIP VPN router during travel.
